Best in Show
Herbert Chow for "First Morning Light"
"Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher a storm,
but to add color to my sunset sky."
― Rabindranath Tagore, Stray Birds
October’s art competition for Contemporary Art Gallery Online bore the description, “Colors” as demonstrated in Paintings, Photography, Mixed and 3D Media categories. Results were announced on, November 16, 2015.
Color is the intangible which supports our universal perspective. An artist’s brush strokes may be broad, narrow, loud or quiet. Yet with the absence of color, we hear, smell, feel and taste but are pressed to see; much like the dawn of a new day, we require new depth. Artist, Herbert Chow’s “First Morning Light” acrylic work captured a similar emotion inspired by nature and is recognized as The Best in Show. While, “Blossoms 12” by Naima White also mirrored nature and was selected for the Judges Special Choice award.
In a moment in time, effects of color and variant light rays, shape our atmosphere and also shadow what we instinctively know through a lens.
Photography’s first and second place winners were “Purple View” by, Joanna Gawkowska and “Tibetan Steps by, Janice Wetzel.
Mixed and 3D Media’s first and second place winners were “Still Life Circles” by, Bob Craig and “Noitarebil” by, Abraham Danson.
Paintings first and second place winners were “Bread and Roses” by, Elina Grosul and “Dancing Pair” by, Hemu Aggarwal.
To adequately arrange complex and subtle experiences, the color becomes a most useful tool. Honorable Recognitions were awarded for the following abstract, realist, and emergent works from artists interpreting crossroads, beauty, freedom and nostalgic themes:
“Butterflies” by, Mara Zaslove
“Kimono” by, Ralph White
“Study in Red” by, Betty Rhodes
“The Solar Flares for Transient Modulation” by, Ryta Matsumoto
